Mrs. Victoria H. Wilkinson, 96, formerly of Fort Plain, New York died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Jewish Home of Rochester, NY.
Born on March 21, 1916 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Shaheen Hage and Jamilia Daou Hage. Mrs. Wilkinson was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1934 where she completed four years of high school in three years, graduating with honors. She then graduated as an honor student from the Royal Academy of Cosmeticians, Schenectady, NY on December 14, 1946. She was a resident of the Fort Plain area most of her life, spending a brief period of time in Amsterdam and Canajoharie at Arkell Hall before making her final move to Rochester.
Mrs. Wilkinson was the owner and operator of Hilltop Beauty Salon on Clyde Street in Fort Plain for over 21 years from 1948-69.
She was a Maronite Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a sodalist for the 3rd Order Franciscan and a member of the Alter Rosary Society for Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a tireless advocate on behalf of children, the unborn and religious education.
Mrs. Wilkinson enjoyed crocheting, lace work and altering clothes for various Church’s and the Auriesville Shrine.
On June 15, 1936, Victoria was married to Mr. Bargey C. Wilkinson. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1985. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Amelia Fahy; brothers, Peter S. Hage, Sasen Hage; sister, Mary Nessle.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her daughters, Elaine Waldman and her husband Dr. Richard Waldman of Syracuse, NY, Mary Beth Quandt and her husband Christopher Quandt of Rochester, NY; sister, Sally D’Arcangelis of Fort Plain, NY; brother, George Hage of MO; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 9:15am at the Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am on Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.

She was a Maronite Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a sodalist for the 3rd Order Franciscan and a member of the Alter Rosary Society for Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a tireless advocate on behalf of children, the unborn and religious education.
Mrs. Wilkinson enjoyed crocheting, lace work and altering clothes for various Church’s and the Auriesville Shrine.
On June 15, 1936, Victoria was married to Mr. Bargey C. Wilkinson. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1985. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Amelia Fahy; brothers, Peter S. Hage, Sasen Hage; sister, Mary Nessle.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her daughters, Elaine Waldman and her husband Dr. Richard Waldman of Syracuse, NY, Mary Beth Quandt and her husband Christopher Quandt of Rochester, NY; sister, Sally D’Arcangelis of Fort Plain, NY; brother, George Hage of MO; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 9:15am at the Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am on Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. Mrs. Louise M. Prime, 91, of Maple Ave., Canajoharie, New York died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born on November 5, 1920 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of Charles Mingst and Bertha McFee Mingst. She was educated in Canajoharie Schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Prime was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for 19 years, retiring from the Strained Foods Department.
She was a member of St. John’s & St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie.
Mrs. Prime was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post #222 Ladies Auxiliary and the Canajoharie Senior Citizens. She was an avid golfer and card player at Arkell Center in Canajoharie.
On August 9, 1947 in Canajoharie, NY, Louise was married to Alton J. Prime. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Mrs. Prime is predeceased by her aunt, Bernice Westerman.
She is survived by her husband, Alton J. Prime of Canajoharie, NY and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Pastor Zach Labagh officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth W. Weaver, 84, of Sprakers, New York died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on July 10, 1928 in East Aurora, NY, she was the daughter of Frederick Wickert and Helen May Gould Wickert. She was a graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, NY and a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute of Nursing, class of 1963. Mrs. Weaver had been a resident of the Town of Root since 1952, previously residing in the Town of Carlisle. Mrs. Weaver started her career in 1964 working in St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse. In 1972 she became the Director of Nurses for Palatine Nursing Home. She then went to work as the Director of Nursing for Arkell Hall in 1974. Mrs. Weaver had been a familiar face at Arkell Hall Adult Home for over 20 years. She was the Director of Arkell Hall starting in 1978, a position she held until 1994. She was of Methodist faith. Mrs. Weaver was a former member of Little Falls Hospital and was a member of the Red Cross. On January 8, 1949 at the Gilboa Methodist Church in Gilboa, NY, Ruth married Walter James Weaver. Together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Mrs. Weaver was predeceased by a son, Thomas Walter Weaver on June 26, 1990. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Priscilla Guyette and Helen Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, Walter James Weaver of Sprakers, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Robert Anderson of Ballston Spa, NY; brother, Fred Wickert Jr. of Gilboa, NY; grandchildren, Thomas W. Weaver, Jr. of the Town of Root, NY, Adam C. Weaver of the Town of Root, NY, Heather M. and Robert Ketzer of Canajoharie, NY, Kristin and Todd Scott of Saratoga, NY, Britta Anderson of Ballston Spa, NY; great-grandchildren, Ryan Weaver, Alex Weaver, Melena Scott, Hailey Weaver, Jacoba Ketzer, Hanna Ketzer; daughter-in-law, June Dolly; foster daughter, Mary Hicks of Albany, NY; nephews, Charles, Eugene, Martin and Christopher Guyette; as well as several cousins. Mrs. Ethel C. Jordan, 103, of Wagner Hill Road, Fort Plain, New York died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born on May 19, 1909 in Van Hornesville, NY, she was the daughter of Howard Moyer and Lessie Fort Moyer. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Springfield High School. She also completed a Teacher Training Course at Springfield. Mrs. Jordan taught at one room school houses until 1930. She then spent the next 30 years as a mother and homemaker. In the 1960s Mrs. Jordan started her bottle and antique business, Antiques Old & Unusual. She was a member of the former St. James Lutheran Church in Starkville, NY. She was treasurer of the church for many years and also taught Sunday school. Mrs. Jordan enjoyed bowling, sewing, quilting and rug weaving. On November 27, 1930 Ethel married Ralph Snell Jordan. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1977. She was also predeceased by all seven siblings. Mrs. Jordan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, R. Nicholas and Susan M. Jordan of Starkville, NY; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Jordan of Haverhill, MA, Adam Nicholas and his wife, Morgan Jordan of Glenmont, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:00am at Fort Plain Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Mr. Kenneth A. Darrow, 97, of St. Hwy. 162, Sprakers, New York died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. Born on February 21, 1915 in the Town of Root, NY, he was the son of Charles Darrow and Marjorie A. Olmstead Darrrow. Mr. Darrow was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of the Nose Hill Elementary School, Canajoharie High School and Clarkson College of Technology with a BME degree. He married Mary S. McNamara on November 6, 1943. Together they had 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mr. Darrow was employed by General Electric as a mechanical engineer in their Research and Development Center in Schenectady, retiring in 1980. He was a teacher in GE’s apprentice course. He was the holder of twenty-six patents. He was a member of the Currytown Reformed Church, having held the offices of Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Consistory and Vice President of Consistory for many years. Mr. Darrow was a member of Mapletown Grange #613, Montgomery County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange and the National Grange. He served on the Town of Root Town Board as Councilman for eight years and as Town Supervisor for fourteen years. He was a member of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors and served as Chairman of that board in 1964. He is predeceased by his daughter, Janice D. Klemme; brother, H. Edward Darrow and sister, Dorothy Monk. Mr. Darrow is survived by his wife, Mary M. Darrow of Sprakers, NY; daughter, Patricia D. (Edward) Young of Palatine Bridge, NY; 2 sons, Robert D. (Karen) Darrow of Glenville, NY, William K. (Jean) Darrow of Webster, NY; son-in-law, Karl Klemme of Sprakers, NY; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Currytown Reformed Church with Pastor Donald Hoaglander officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from Noon to 1:00pm at the Church. Mrs. Norma M. Cottrell-Alter, 90, formerly of Arkell Hall, Canajoharie, New York died Friday, November 2, 2012 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born on August 9, 1922 in Sidney, NY, she was the daughter of Gilbert C. Cottrell and Esther Tryon Cottrell. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1940. She also attended Albany Business College and Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater. Norma had been a local area resident for over 50 years. Mrs. Cottrell-Alter was employed as an Administrative Assistant to the President of the former Central National Bank in Canajoharie, NY for over 28 years, retiring in 1987. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Naval Women’s Reserve. Mrs. Cottrell-Alter was of Roman Catholic faith. She was a former member of the Canajoharie Country Club and the Ladies Inter County Golf Association. She was a member of the Canajoharie Seniors and of the American Legion Smith-Shultz Post #222 of Canajoharie. Mrs. Cottrell-Alter enjoyed bowling and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. Mrs. Cottrell-Alter is survived by her daughter, Judith Anne and her husband, Leonard Horender of Fort Plain, NY; son, Louis J. Sierra, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Canajoharie, NY; 3 granddaughters, Heather and Mark Rubeo, Wendy and Chris Scarlett, Jenna Sierra; 2 grandsons, Philip and Erin Horender, Connor Sierra; 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda Rubeo, Jonathan Rubeo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:30am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. Burial will take place at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Military Honors at graveside by the US Navy. Mr. Benjamin James Suits, 83, of Cutter Lane, Johnstown, New York died Friday, November 09, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on September 21, 1929 in Palatine Bridge, NY, he was the son of John D. Suits, Sr. and Marguerite Foster Suits. He attended Nelliston School. Benjamin was a resident of Johnstown for over 30 years. Prior to moving to Johnstown he resided with his brother and sister-in-law in Ames, NY. Mr. Suits was employed by Lexington Industries for over 30 years. He was of Protestant faith. Mr. Suits enjoyed movies, especially Westerns, handkerchiefs and baseball. He liked to watch CSI and Law & Order. Benjamin took pleasure in spending time with his nieces and nephews. He really enjoyed going to Travers Restaurant and to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and munchkins. He is predeceased by his brother, John D. Suits, Jr. Mr. Suits is survived by his sister, Joyce Handy of Castleton, NY; sister-in-law, Helen F. Suits of Canajoharie, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and family at Lexington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 10-11am at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Mr. Richard L. Brisbane, 64, of Hancock Street, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, November 12, 2012 at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany following a long illness. Born on February 27, 1948 in Margaretville, NY, he was the son of Glenford Davis and Dorothy Brisbane. Mr. Brisbane had been an area resident for over 40 years, previously residing in Margaretville. He obtained his GED while serving in the US Army. Mr. Brisbane was a forklift operator for Select LLC in St. Johnsville, NY for many years. He was honorably discharged from the US Army where he obtained a rank of SP5. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and was stationed in Korea. Mr. Brisbane enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He is predeceased by his father, Glenford Davis; brother, Robert Davis and grandson, Zachary Brisbane. Mr. Brisbane is survived by his mother, Dorothy VanDerlyn of West Shokan, NY; sons, Thomas Brisbane and Stacy of North Carolina, Jon Brisbane and Jessica of Fultonville, NY; daughter, Michelle Bain of Andes, NY; sisters, Gloria Quick, Bessie Payne, Nancy Smith; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Esther A. Gehring, 94, formerly of Berthoud Street, Nelliston, New York died, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Johnsville Rehab and Nursing Center. Born on April 23, 1918 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph Stefanacci and Assunta Rufoloni Stefanacci. Esther was educated at Fort Plain Schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Gehring was employed as an inspector for Beech-Nut Corp. in Canajoharie for 16 years, retiring in 1980. She also worked for the former Luxuray Knitting Mill in Fort Plain for 27 years. She had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Plain since 1939 and was a member of the W.E.L.C.A. Ladies of the Church. Mrs. Gehring was a member of the Fort Plain/Nelliston Senior Citizens and a member of the St. Johnsville Senior Citizens. On June 4, 1938 in Fort Plain, NY, Esther was married to Charles T. Gehring, Jr. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1973. She was also predeceased by her father and mother; step-father, Plinio Trombetta; daughter, Elsie J. Sanders; brother, Silvino Stefanacci; sisters, Margaret Gehring and Alma Ouderkirk. Mrs. Gehring is survived by her son, Dr. Charles T. Gehring, III of Altamont, NY; step-daughter, Yvonne Farley of Saratoga Springs, NY; sister, Virginia Vosburgh of Canajoharie, NY; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 12:00pm at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Born on October 18, 1914 in Norway, New York, she was the adoptive daughter of Maurice and Lillian Darrow. She had been a local area resident for many years, previously residing in Mindenville. Mrs. Hulbert was a homemaker. She was previously employed as an attendant at Letchworth Village in Thiells, NY for 16 ½ years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Freysbush Bible Church and Hessville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary. On October 17, 1956 in Nyack, NY, Ruth was married to Addison R. Hulbert. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1977. She was also predeceased by her son, Rowland Calhoun; brothers, Glenn and Albert Darrow; step-son, Addison Hulbert, Jr. Mrs. Hulbert is survived by her step-son, Lawrence Edward and Caroline Hulbert of Fort Plain, NY; step-daughters, Ann and Harold Lynch of Ilion, NY, Barbara and Allen Schreiber of Helene, AL; brother, Lynn Darrow of Little Falls, NY; sisters, Flora Stock of Little Falls, NY, Marion and Paul Bouck of Fort Plain, NY; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Darrow of Mohawk, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and also many special neighbors and friends. Born on July 11, 1951 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of George W. Jones and Freda Galusha Jones. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1970. He had been a local area resident since December of 1992, previously residing in New Smyrna Beach and Orlando, Florida. Most recently Mr. Jones was a custodian for Palatine Nursing Home. His most memorable job was at Walt Disney World, while living in Orlando. Mr. Jones was a member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church. Terry was an avid NASCAR fan who loved listening to music, especially the oldies. He was predeceased by his father, George W. Jones in 1995. Mr. Jones is survived by his mother, Freda Jones of Palatine Bridge, NY; daughter, Kellie Jones and companion, Jim Thomas of Fort Plain, NY; son, Jeremy Jones and companion, Jessie Knapp of St. Johnsville, NY; sister, Janyce and her husband Terry VanAlstine of Palatine Bridge, NY; brother, Gary Jones and his wife, Terry of Nelliston, NY; grandchildren, Camdon Jones, Brayden Hakes, Maicee Thomas; 1 niece; 2 nephews; several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Joyce E. Dillenback, 66, of Brower Road, Canajoharie, New York, died Saturday, December 1st, 2012 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY following a brief illness. Born on January 15, 1946 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of Milton L. Krutz and Freda Heilig Krutz, both predeceased her. She was a Graduate of Canajoharie High School Class of 1963. Joyce also graduated from Albany Medical College, School of Nursing, Class of 1966, earning her RN certification. Joyce has been retired for the past 8 years, but prior to that she had been the School Nurse for Canajoharie from 1975- 1988 , and had also been employed at many area hospitals, and several dentists offices. Joyce was a lifetime area resident. A member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Stone Arabia, Member of the Palatine Literary Society and Exempt Member of the Canajoharie Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary . She also was actively involved in her children’s extra circular activities, enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, baking and was known as great cook. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially her Grandchildren. On November 8th, 1968 she married Wallace P. Dillenback, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Stone Arabia, NY. Joyce is survived by Her Husband of 44 years Wallace P. Dillenback of Palatine Bridge, NY, her Daughter Amy L. Dillenback and her husband Stephen Ramsey of Delmar, NY, Two Sons Eric J. and Beth Dillenback of Meco, NY, and Martin A. Dillenback, and Sara DeVarnne of Gloversville, NY, One Brother and Sister in law Milton and Barb Krutz of Canajoharie, NY , and Grandchildren, Andrew Ramsey, and Elisabeth Ramsey, Dane Wallace Dillenback, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoahrie, NY 13317, on Wednesday December 5th, 2012 at 10:00am, with Rev. Zachary Labagh officiating.
