Mr. Richard James Trumbull, 82, of Sunset Drive, Fort Plain, New York passed away peacefully Monday, December 3, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. Born on June 4, 1930 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Harold Trumbull and Hazel Getman Trumbull. He attended Sand Hill School House and Fort Plain Schools. He was a lifetime area resident. In 1952 Mr. Trumbull purchased the Freysbush Dairy Farm. He was also the owner and operator of H. Trumbull & Sons Farm Equipment Sales and Services. In 2002 Mr. Trumbull semi-retired however, he continued to help with the farm. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Utica, NY. Mr. Trumbull was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and a former member of the South Minden Fire Department. On November 12, 1950, Richard married Betty Davis. Mr. Trumbull was predeceased by his son, Robert G. Trumbull on June 2, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Trumbull of Fort Plain, NY; 2 daughters, Cheryl D’Arcangelis and Richard, Marie Hazzard; 2 sons, Edward Trumbull, James Trumbull; brother, Roger Trumbull and Carolyn all of Fort Plain, NY; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. A reception will follow the memorial service at the South Minden Fire Department. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Blanche C. Stafford, 65, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, December 3, 2012 at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville following a brief illness. Born on April 29, 1947 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of George Failing and Lulu May Williams Failing. She attended Fort Plain Central School and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Stafford was an Instructional Aide for Fort Plain Central School for many years. Blanche enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to each visit with her grandchildren. She also loved cooking. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert Failing and Clifford “Mick” Failing. Mr. Thomas Arnold Cook, 69, Palatine Bridge, New York passed away at home on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 with his loving wife, Gail by his side. Tom was born on August 1, 1943, the only child to Evelyn Kleinschmidt and “Doc” Cook. Tom was united in marriage to Gail Mason on July 31, 1981 in Quaker Street, NY. When marrying Gail, Tom became a Dad to four children; Bonnie, Jeff, Christi and Jenn. Tom was a true family man and his greatest joys were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Gail; daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Sturm; son, Jeffrey Davison (Dee Schweitzer); daughter, Christi (Vincent) Sala and daughter, Jenn Szemcsak; as well as his grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Matthew, Iszy, Madison, Reagan, Ethan and his ever present furry companion, Simon. Mr. Roger Allen Trumbull, 77, of St. Hwy. 5s, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, December 17, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. Born on April 29, 1935 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Harold Trumbull and Hazel Getman Trumbull. He was a lifelong area resident that was educated at the Sand Hill School and a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1952. Mr. Trumbull was an Organic Farmer and previous Dairy Farmer on his family farm from 1956 to present. He became an Organic Farmer in 1982. He was also a dealer for Fertrell Co., dealing in organic minerals and supplements. He was of Methodist faith. Mr. Trumbull enjoyed spending time with his family. On February 23, 1957, Roger was married to Carolyn Prall. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Mr. Trumbull was predeceased by his brother, Richard James Trumbull on December 3, 2012. Mr. Trumbull is survived by his wife, Carolyn Trumbull of Fort Plain, NY; 2 daughters, Teris and Daryl of Johnstown, NY, Alaine and Matt of Stone Arabia, NY; son, Brian and Dawn of Fort Plain, NY; grandchildren, Aaron, Kaitlin, Evan, Taylor; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Norma M. Phillips, 93, of Smith Street, Canajoharie, New York died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua, New York. Born on June 23, 1919 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of Jay Mincher and Ida Bixen Mincher. She was a graduate of Keuka College, class of 1940 with a BA in English. She then received her Master’s Degree from SUNY Albany in Library Science. Mrs. Phillips spent much of her life on Smith Street in Canajoharie, residing the past 4 months at Elm Manor. Mrs. Phillips started her career as an English teacher for Knox Junior High School in Johnstown. She retired in the early 1980s from Johnstown High School, where she worked for many years as the School’s Librarian. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout Upstate New York and New England attending craft fairs to purchase small gifts for the many young members of her extended family. She was a member of St. John’s & St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. In 1953 Norma was married to Charles D. Phillips. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1965. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, Brian and Mary Phillips of Canandaigua, NY; brother, James B. Mincher of Halfmoon, NY; grandchildren, Jenna and Paul Johnson, Samuel Phillips, William Phillips; nieces and nephews, Gary and Amy Mincher, Greg and Sandy Mincher, Dianne Mincher, David and Lenore Mincher; as well as several cousins. Mrs. Marguerite I. Ditty, 84, of Paines Hollow Road, Little Falls, New York died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Little Falls Hospital. Born on December 2, 1928 in the Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of Henry Luck and Elizabeth Kretser Luck. She attended Canajoharie Central School. She had been a resident of Little Falls since 1963, previously residing in Dolgeville. Mrs. Ditty was most recently employed at Kateri’s Gift Shop in Little Falls, NY. She had also worked as a Machine Operator for LaSalle Labs in Little Falls, NY and Alegro Shoe Manufacturing in Little Falls. Mrs. Ditty was of Lutheran faith. She was a former member of St. John’s & St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, as well as outdoor activities. She also enjoyed flower gardens, growing sweet williams and roses. On May 26, 1973 in Chadwicks, NY, Marguerite was married to Donald T. Ditty. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1997. She was also predeceased by her son, Ralph Darling in 1963, brother, Emory Luck and great-niece, Tiffany Kimmel. Mrs. Ditty is survived by her 2 sons, Robert Darling of Falconer, NY, Kenneth Darling of Fort Plain, NY; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 special niece, Elizabeth C. Jones of Little Falls, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lillian Herb, 83, of Fort Plain, New York passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 04, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Lillian was born on August 15, 1929 to Roy and Jennie Ferguson. She attended Fort Plain School and went on to work at Luxuray Mills for 46 years. Lillian loved to go to Turning Stone for the slots and had even been on several trips to Las Vegas. A special part of her life was devoted to her beloved cats and dogs. She was predeceased by her husband, Sherman Herb in 1973 and a very special friend, Tom String in June of 2012. Mrs. Herb is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Leon) Douglas and Terry (Mike) Pettit. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacey (Dan) Neznek and Ryan, Breanne and Aaron Pettit. Lillian also had 2 beloved and enjoyed great-grandchildren, Holley and Nolen Neznek. According to Lillian’s wishes there will be no calling hours. There will be a Service of Remembrance at Fort Plain Cemetery in the Spring. Mrs. Evelyn E. Hayes, 91, of McEwan Road, Canajoharie, New York died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side. Born on July 13, 1921 in the Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of Charles Swartz and Minnie Radley Swartz. She was educated at Fort Plain Schools and lived in the area all her life. Mrs. Hayes most recently worked as a nurse’s aide in Palatine Nursing Home. She worked with her father and her husband on their family farms and also worked at the former Luxuray Mill while raising her family and working on the farms. She purchased the adjoining farm to her father’s while her husband was in the army and she worked it with her father. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mrs. Hayes was a member of Ames Fire Department and President of the Auxiliary; as well as being a member of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering along with taking care of her grandchildren. Evelyn was married in Gloversville, NY 1940 to Willard Hayes. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2006. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Mr. Donald E. Heiser
Mr. Donald Elmer Heiser, 91, of Clinton Road, Canajoharie, New York died Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Mary’s Healthcare of Amsterdam following a short illness. Born on May 21, 1921 in Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of Elmer Heiser and Caroline Appell Heiser. He attended Round Top School on Seebers Lane and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Heiser was a forklift operator for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for many years. He had also worked for Arkell Bag and Sack Factory in Canajoharie. Mr. Heiser was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corp. serving during World War II with Company “B” 846th Engineer Battalion obtaining the rank of Private First Class. He was a member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 and served as Honor Guard for many years. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. On September 28, 1946 at the Catholic Rectory in Canajoharie, NY Donald was married to Petronella M. Palmen. They met in Holland while he was serving in the Army Air Corp. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2008. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Clinton, Leland and Catherine. Mr. Heiser is survived by his daughter, Odilia and son-in-law, Helmut Deeg of Schenectady, NY; 5 grandchildren, Christopher (Jackie) Deeg, Petra (David) O’Clair, Marisa Walter, Sarah (Brian) Demers, Laura (Scott) Belcastro; 6 great-granddaughters, Marra, Emily, Hannah, Isabella, Jenna, Natalie; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Charles Abeling
Mr. Charles Abeling, 80, of Maple Avenue, Canajoharie, New York died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam. Born on July 30, 1932 in Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of William Abeling and Dorothy Hoffman Abeling. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and attended Western Reserve University. Mr. Abeling was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Abeling started his employment at Beech-Nut, working in the shipping department. He then went on to work in the maintenance department at Lifesavers. He was elected secretary and treasurer of the Labor Union AFLCIO, a position he held for 9 years. Mr. Abeling retired from Lifesavers as personal manager. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was with the 7th Army Division, 3rd Infantry Regiment. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, and Bronze Star with Valor Device. He was of Lutheran faith. Mr. Abeling was a member of the Lifesaver 25 year club, the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks Lodge #2621 B.P.O.E., and of the Fort Plain American Legion Post #554. He also played the trumpet in the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 Band. On March 24, 1961 at the Fort Plain Reformed Church Charles was married to Mary Putnam. Together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage. Mr. Abeling is predeceased by his parents, sister, Evelyn Claven and grandson, Eric Yauney. Mr. Abeling is survived by his wife, Mary Abeling of Canajoharie, NY; 4 daughters, Donna and Ronald Young of Fort Plain, NY, Diane and Alan Yauney of Alaska, NY, Debra and Dixon McFee of Fort Plain, NY, Dolores Fuhs of Lexington, KY; son, Kenneth and Joanne Abeling of Naperville, IL; brother, Richard Abeling of Riverside, CA; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Erma D. Hood, 90, formerly of Clark Avenue, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on June 15, 1922 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Olen C. Dingman and Elizabeth Tittle Dingman. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1940 and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Hood worked for Beech-Nut and Life Savers in Canajoharie in various capacities retiring as secretary in 1984 after 41 years of service. She was of Protestant faith. Mrs. Hood was a Charter member of the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, serving with them for about 10 years and a member of the Beech-Nut 25 Year Club. She was the widow of Clyde K. Hood, who passed away in 1968. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Virgil G. Dingman, Stanley U. Dingman and her sister, Lola Dingman. Mrs. Hood is survived by her niece, Gail Capece of Canajoharie, NY; 2 nephews, Jan Dingman of Fort Plain, NY, Don Dingman of St. Johnsville, NY; and several cousins. Mr. Robert W. Van Valkenburg, 86, of Carlisle Road, Canajoharie, New York went to be with the LORD on January 15, 2013 with his loving family at his side. He was born in Canajoharie on October 1, 1926 the son of Robert G. and Mabel D. Van Valkenburg. Robert was a lifetime resident of Canajoharie and graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the US Army and served honorably being discharged in 1946 with the rank of Master Sergeant. In 1947 he attended the American Surety Insurance School in New York City. He was a licensed insurance agent in this area for many years. Bob was a lifetime member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church, serving as deacon. He was also a member of the Amvets and Lions Club. In 1950 he married Betty I. Leneker, daughter of Raymond and Irene Leneker of Cherry Valley. They were married for 61 years. Bob is predeceased by his wife, Betty and his son, Paul. He is survived by his daughter, Judith I. Burgess and her husband, Charles Burgess of Canajoharie; 2 grandchildren, Joshua C. Burgess and Jenna L. Burgess Connor. Mrs. Ellen Neilson Meyers
Mrs. Ellen Neilson Meyers, 100, of Schultze Street Ext., Canajoharie, New York died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Johnsville Rehab & Nursing Center. Born on January 15, 1913 on the Saratoga Battlefield in Bemis Heights, NY, she was the daughter of Charles William Neilson and Sarah Jones Neilson. She was a graduate of Stillwater High School, class of 1932 and a graduate of Albany Business College. Mrs. Meyers had been a resident of Canajoharie since 1987, previously residing in Ames from 1950-1987. Mrs. Meyers was employed as a secretary for the West Virginia Pulp & Paper Mill in Mechanicville. From 1961-1987 she and her late husband, Richard R. Meyers owned and operated the “Shambles” Dairy farm in Ames. Ellen was a member of the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the United Methodist Church’s U.M.W. Club. She was a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star in Sharon Springs and the Mapletown Grange. On March 24, 1945 in Stillwater, NY, Ellen was married to Richard R. Meyers. He predeceased her on June 12, 1987. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John P. Neilson, Charles Neilson; sisters, Elizabeth Travis, Jane Cowin and son-in-law, John “Jack” Hyland. Mrs. Meyers is survived by her three daughters, Irene M. Parsons of Canajoharie, NY, Marjorie M. Hyland of Rexford, NY, Lydia M. and Mark Saltsman of Stone Arabia, NY; son, Richard N. and Dora Meyers of Canajoharie, NY; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Mr. Bo Michael Baker
Bo Michael Baker, 21, of Fort Plain, New York passed away suddenly on Friday, January 25, 2013. Born in Gloversville, NY on October 3, 1991 he was the son of Kenneth Baker, Jr. and Theresa Fassett Baker. Bo was a graduate of Fort Plain Central School, where he was the catcher on his High School Baseball Team, joining his brothers in their love of the game. Bo’s mother will never forget his smile that lit up her day. His father will always remember his cannon of an arm and his brothers will always say he shared a quality of class with his favorite baseball player, Derek Jeter. Bo was devoted to his paternal grandparents, Vonnie and Kenneth Baker, Sr. and he would do anything he could for them. Bo was also a member of the High School Bowling Team and played college baseball at FMCC/SCC. Bo was the kind of small town country boy everyone loved. He touched the heart of so many with his ability to light up a room with laughter and an amazing sense of humor. Bo loved hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, working on cars, camping, music, his Mustang and Ford truck and collecting knives. But most of all he enjoyed hanging out with the boys, especially Ryan Kane, R.J. Whiteman, Cianan Porter, Marquis Eley, Justin Smith and Chris Gattman. Bo truly enjoyed time with his many friends and his brothers, who were his best friends. Special thanks to Coach Craig Phillips and the Fort Plain Coaching Staff for all their years of coaching and guidance. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ed and Sharon Fassett. Bo is survived by his beloved mother and father, Theresa and Kenneth Baker, Jr. of Fort Plain; two brothers, Dustin and Brent Baker of Fort Plain; paternal grandparents, Vonnie and Kenneth Baker, Sr. of Canajoharie; aunts and uncles, Bruce and Stacie Baker of Canajoharie, Jason and Marietta Baker of Minnesota, Wendy Butler of Herkimer, Tammy and Kevin Talbot of Fort Plain, Ann and Paul Ouderkirk of Palatine Bridge; cousins, Jordan, Courtney, Brittany, Gabriele, Nikki, Caitlyn, Falon Baker, Dan, Laci Talbot, Zachary, Brittany Ouderkirk. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 10:00am at the Fort Plain Reformed Church, 165 Canal Street, Fort Plain with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Reformed Church. At that time the family will receive relatives and friends. Mrs. Maria Verbitsky
Mrs. Maria Verbitsky, 94, of Lydius Street, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home. She was born on March 14, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Public School #184 in Brooklyn. Mrs. Verbitsky had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1987. Mrs. Verbitsky was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed shopping for clothing, garage sales, thrift stores and antique shopping. She was an animal lover, especially with cats. She was of Methodist faith. In 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, Maria was married to Michael Verbitsky. He preceded her in death in November 1990. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael Verbitsky in November 2009. Mrs. Verbitsky is survived by her son, Paul Verbitsky, Sr. of Fort Plain, NY; grandchildren, Paul Verbitsky, Jr. of Newport, NY, Paula Galleger of Florida; great-grandchildren, Autumn Verbitsky and Nate Verbitsky. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Mrs. Maude R. Van Arsdal
Mrs. Maude R. Van Arsdal, 84, of St. Hwy. 10, Ames, New York died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on February 20, 1928 in Ames, NY, she was the daughter of Harry A. Lambert and Irene E. Young Lambert. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Van Arsdal worked for the Malopa Company in Fort Plain which later became Beech-Nut as a Quality Control person, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Board of Elections, Canajoharie District. Mrs. Van Arsdal was an active member of the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ames Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was the Museum Historian for the Village of Ames. On June 25, 1949 at the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church, Maude married, Leon “Gus” Charles Van Arsdal, who was the former Mayor of Ames. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1988. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Ochal and brother, Howard Lambert. Mrs. Van Arsdal is survived by her daughter, Lori and Bill Ochal of Broadalbin, NY; 2 brothers, Milton H. Lambert of Ames, NY, Alton Lee Lambert of Ames, NY; sister, Loraine J. Baldwin of Ames, NY; 4 grandchildren, Megan Ochal, Bethany McCaffery, Lindsey Ochal, Jay Ochal; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery in the spring. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Maude R. Mr. Stanley H. Bobar
Mr. Stanley H. Bobar, 79, of Lynk Street, Sprakers, New York died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his home. Born on September 4, 1933 in Moriah, NY, he was the son of Howard Bobar and Blanche Maple Bobar. He was a lifetime local area resident. Mr. Bobar started his employment with Beech-Nut in Canajoharie then continued on to Lifesavers, retiring from Richardson Brands after many years of working as a Machine Adjuster. He was a member of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Bobar loved cars and belonged to the Fulton County Antique Car Club. He also enjoyed go kart racing, snowmobiles, woodworking and furniture making. He is predeceased by his brother, Clarence Bobar. Mr. Bobar is survived by his 6 children, Deborah (Carl) Ovitt of Rockwood, NY, Stanley (Kathy) Bobar, Jr. of Ontario, Canada, George Bobar of Middleburg, NY, Wanda McClary of Ontario, Canada, Howard (Hope) Bobar of Canajoharie, NY and Scott(Kelly) Bobar of Canajoharie, NY; 2 sisters, Lorraine Pierce of Ballston Lake, NY, Juanita Merlino of Leesburg, FL; brother, Gerald Bobar of Galway, NY; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 6:00pm at Rural Grove Christian Church, 170 Rural Grove Road, Sprakers, NY 12166. Mr. Richard M. Burke
Mr. Richard Michael Burke, 87, of Rte. 163, Fort Plain, New York died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Little Falls Hospital. Born on September 21, 1925 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Michael Burke and Ann Dugan Burke. He attended schools in Bayside, NY and had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1962. Mr. Burke was a furniture finisher in Highland, NY. He was also a high rise construction worker in New York City for many years and was the owner and operator of 100 Acre Dairy Farm in Fort Plain. He was of Catholic faith. Mr. Burke was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II on the USS Alchiba with a rank of Seaman 1st Class. His unit received Presidential Unit Citation for saving the USS Alchiba and for duty above and beyond. He was a member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, the American Legion Fort Plain Post #554 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a National War Memorial Charter member as well as being a member of the Masonic Lodge. On April 27, 1957 in the Bronx, NY, Richard was married to Kathleen O’Brien. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2010. He was also predeceased by his 1st wife, Madeline Burke in 1957; brother, Frank Burke; sisters, Florence Simpson Burke, Kathleen White and Rose Whittaker. Mr. Burke is survived by his 2 daughters, Barbara and son-in-law, Jack Blair of Florida, Nancy Burke of Oneonta, NY; 3 sons, Richard Burke of California, James Burke and Shauna Steenburgh of Fort Plain, NY, Martin Burke of Fort Plain, NY; brother, Michael J. Burke; 6 sisters, Dorothy O’Hogan, Patricia Eberlein, Joyce Pine, Geraldine Manely, Renee Meyer, Lorraine Lape ; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Services are pending. Mr. Angel L. Cruz
Mr. Angel L. Cruz, 82, of Palatine Bridge, New York died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown following a brief illness. Born on April 4, 1930 in Rio PieDras, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Edwardo and Isabel Cruz. He had been a local area resident since 1950, previously residing in Brooklyn, NY. Most recently Mr. Cruz worked at Poly Ply in Amsterdam, NY. He worked for various leather and knitting Mills in Amsterdam prior to his employment with Poly Ply. He was of Catholic faith. Angel enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Cruz is survived by his companion of 25 years, Myra Fox of Palatine Bridge, NY; 2 sons, Luis A. Cruz of Norfolk, VA, Anthony Cruz of Marshalltown, IA; 3 daughters, Millie Ward of Melborne, FL, Rosemary Thompson of Marshalltown, IA, Judy Wood of Virginia Beach, VA; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Elizabeth E. Hulsaver
Mrs. Elizabeth E. Hulsaver, 101, formerly of Carmen Court, Palatine Bridge, New York died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2013 at St. Johnsville Rehab & Nursing Center. Born on October 11, 1911 in Rhinecliff, NY, she was the daughter of Sanford Curtis and Elizabeth Jane Robinson Curtis. She attended Rhinecliff County School and has been a local area resident since her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Hulsaver retired from Hudson River State Hospital in 1977, where she worked for many years as a LPN. She was of Protestant faith. Mrs. Hulsaver loved to crochet, do word search puzzles, garden and watch birds from the back porch. On October 9, 1981 at the former St. Peter’s & Paul’s Catholic Church in Canajoharie Elizabeth was married to Peter J. Hulsaver. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2001. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Oran Van Etten in 1974; 3 sons, David Van Etten, Richard Van Etten, Roger Van Etten; daughter, Helen Van Etten Brandt. Mrs. Hulsaver is survived by her daughter, Marie E. LaRue of Palatine Bridge, NY; son, Ronald J. Van Etten of Rhinecliff, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev.
